Art of Rest
WITH GRACE DINES
RESTWEAR IS DEEPLY PERSONAL. IT’S WHAT YOU WEAR IN YOUR MOST RELAXED MOMENTS. IT’S AN INTIMATE EXPRESSION OF SELF…SOMETHING WE CHOOSE BASED ON COMFORT, MOOD, AND PERSONAL CONNECTION.
Art and rest share an unspoken rhythm. Both ask us to slow down, to observe, to find meaning in the in-between moments. For artist Grace Dines, nature’s quiet transformations serve as the foundation of her work, where blurred branches, shifting light, and fleeting impressions become lasting forms. Now, in collaboration with Lunya, Dines translates her ethereal vision into wearable art: fluid, organic, and immersive. Each piece in the collection is a reflection of her practice, embodying the delicacy of impermanence while grounding the wearer in something tangible.
These limited-edition pieces aren’t just about aesthetics; it’s about experience. To Dines, the act of wearing art is deeply personal, much like the act of rest itself. “These designs allow the wearer to embrace a quiet, personal form of artistry in their [HER?] everyday life,” she explains. No two pieces are alike—each one carrying its own distinct story, mirroring the natural world’s ever-evolving beauty.
The collaboration offers a rare opportunity to slip into something that feels as singular as it looks. More than just sleepwear, these pieces invite reflection, ease, and an intimate connection to art in motion. After all, true artistry doesn’t just exist on a canvas. It moves with you, lingers in the details, and most importantly, allows you to pause.

Your work has a deeply organic quality to it, often inspired by nature. Can you describe how your surroundings influence your creative process, particularly your connection to the natural world?
My work is rooted in my natural surroundings—observing the movement of branches or the way light filters through leaves. Being in nature allows me to slow down and observe the intricate details that often go unnoticed. I find inspiration in the imperfect, organic shapes and the way they naturally shift and react to their environment. This connection translates into my work, where I capture forms and movement found in the natural world giving them a lasting presence.

What does “wearable art” mean to you?
Wearable art moves with you and becomes part of your identity and everyday life. I love the idea that my work isn’t just something to look at on a wall but can be experienced in a more intimate, tactile way. This collaboration with Lunya allows people to engage with my art on a more personal level, making it part of their daily rituals.
Nature has always played a central role in your pieces. Are there any specific natural elements or phenomena that consistently inspire your work?
Change and fleeting moments are constant in nature. Nothing is everlasting. The interplay between focus and abstraction reflects the way we experience nature—not always in sharp clarity, but in moments of movement, light, and atmosphere. My work captures and emphasizes the beauty of these instances—the idea that nature is constantly in flux, shifting between vibrancy and fragility.
How would you describe your artistic expression in three words?
Organic, ethereal, immersive.

Can you speak about the specific symbols or motifs that appear in your work? Do any of them carry deeper personal or universal meanings that you’d like people to consider as they wear your designs?
The motifs in my work are rooted in the forms of nature—blurred branches, delicate blossoms, and diffused light. They are all inspired by nature’s quiet moments—reflecting how we experience nature not in fixed, rigid forms, but in soft, shifting impressions. I want people to feel a sense of reflection when they wear these designs; to appreciate the delicate, transient beauty in their surroundings. By wearing these pieces, one carries a piece of that stillness and connection with nature, allowing it to exist beyond nature or canvas and into the rhythm of everyday life.
The pieces in this collab are all one-of-a-kind, much like your artwork. How do you think the idea of ‘individuality’ plays into both your artistic practice and the personal nature of restwear?
Individuality and uniqueness is an important motif in my work. Each of my works captures a fleeting moment—branches shifting in the wind, light filtering through petals. No two pieces are alike. In my practice, I embrace and capture spontaneity. Restwear is deeply personal; it’s what you wear in your most relaxed moments. It’s an intimate expression of self—something we choose based on comfort, mood, and personal connection.

Art often invites us to slow down and reflect. How do you hope the pieces from this collection encourage the wearer to find moments of stillness, beauty, and mindfulness in their own daily routines?
These designs allow the wearer to embrace a quiet, personal form of artistry in their everyday life. My hope is that these pieces become part of someone’s rituals, offering a sense of peace, individuality, and connection to the natural world. The textures, colors, and organic flow of these designs are meant to create a sense of calm and connection. I hope that when someone puts on a piece from this collection, they feel more present in their body and surroundings.
As someone who spends so much time working with natural forms, do you ever find that the act of creating artwork becomes meditative or restorative for you in itself?
Absolutely. My process is often as much about grounding myself as it is about creating something tangible. When I’m creating, it requires patience and thoughtfulness. I have to slow down, requiring me to be more reflective. It’s important for me to embrace moments without pressure. Rest is vital in my routine and practice. Creativity and rest go hand in hand; when I’m in tune with one, the other flows more freely.
Finally, as you reflect on this collaboration with Lunya, what would you like people to take away from wearing these pieces?
I hope people feel a sense of connection to nature, creativity, and to themselves. These pieces are meant to be lived in, to carry a sense of artistry into the everyday. Whether it’s a feeling of comfort, inspiration, or just the simple pleasure of wearing something unique, I want each piece to serve as a reminder that beauty and creativity can be part of everyday moments.
