Wind Down with Angela Allen

Wind down with Los Angeles artist, Angela Allen, and gaze upon her minimalist compositions to find the solace your busy mind craves. Maybe you’ll even borrow a restful tip (or two) from her nighttime routine. Seeking to be well-rested and artfully inspired? You’re in the right place.

Your ability to make (seemingly) simple yet emotional art is mindblowing. Will you share your ethos for creating with us?

My ethos for creating art is based on simplicity, minimalism and imperfection. My aim is to say the most by saying the least through a neutral palette and compositions that contrast and move. I use humble materials like plaster, metal, paper and ceramics that speak to the home but are transformed into emotional works of art.

What does it mean to you when someone adds one of your pieces to their home?

When someone invests in my work and adds pieces to their homes it’s an incredible honor and a huge compliment. They are selecting something very intimate to enhance the most personal part of their lives. Ultimately, collectors are also buying into who I am, which is an honor as well. We share the same language of beauty. There’s a camaraderie that comes with that exchange.

Speaking of the home, what's your favorite spot in your abode?

We live in a classic Los Angeles apartment with an oversized arched window in the living room. It’s my favorite place to watch the world go by.

What can we currently find on your nightstand?

I currently have two books (the Beautiful People and Chanel by Karl Largerfled), a vase of flowers, my iPhone and a Diptyque candle.

Do you share your bed with anyone?

I happily share my bed with my husband.

Favorite thing to wear to bed?

I’ve been wearing LUNYA’s Washable Silk Set for years!

What part of your wind-down routine can you not live without?

I cannot end my night without a sweet treat like a small piece of chocolate, and I love winding down with a good book and coconut oil face wash.

If you could wake up anywhere tomorrow, where would it be and why?

New York city. I love the energy, creativity, architecture, and art galleries.
